On Friday, November 3rd, 2017, New Age Services Corporation will host our 33rd Annual Fundraising Event at the Double Tree in Oak Brook, Illinois. Each year NASC invites someone who has contributed both to the field of substance abuse treatment, as well as to the services provided at New Age Services. This year NASC is pleased to invite Dr. Antonio D. (Dave) Jimenez, Director of the Community Outreach Interventions Project (COIP) of the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health.
Dr. Jimenez began collaborating with New Age Services Corporation in 2011 via a partnership between COIP and NASC to provide mental health assessments for substance abuse patients in clinics throughout the city. It was clear early on that Dr. Jimenez was going to be a good friend to New Age Services, working with us to ensure that the grant was an integrated effort. The collaboration provided mental health screenings for over 1500 patients, and the working relationship led to the development and funding of a federal grant to bring co-located substance abuse and HIV medical care to NASCs Kostner Avenue office. The HIV grant continues today, and will be a springboard to future programs bringing needed services to the residents of Chicago’s west side communities. These programs would not be possible without Dr. Jimenez’s efforts. Dr. Jimenez has a long, distinguished career providing services to persons with substance abuse and other needs. His career at UIC has focused on conducting research and developing service initiatives that respond to HIV/AIDS and the related problems of mental health and illicit drug use. Over his 29 years with COIP he has served as an ethnographer conducting qualitative research for several HIV-related studies of substance abusers, MSM, the elderly and other similarly marginalized populations.
